The ZZ Plant is a tropical species native to Eastern Africa, prized for its durability, glossy foliage, and extremely low maintenance needs—making it an ideal choice for both beginners and busy plant lovers. It can tolerate low light levels and infrequent watering, and thrives in a range of indoor conditions.
This slow-growing plant features naturally shiny, deep green leaves on gently arching stems. Its thick stalks emerge from large, water-storing rhizomes that help the plant withstand periods of drought. Though slow to mature, the ZZ Plant can eventually reach up to 3 feet in height and width, taking several years to do so.
With the right care, a ZZ Plant can live for up to 30 years. It prefers a bright spot out of direct sunlight but can also tolerate lower light environments, making it suitable for homes or offices. Watering is only needed every 2–3 weeks—just ensure the soil has completely dried out between waterings.
